The Way of Horus
by Aeptha
Horus is understood
as being of the Christ consciousness. Spirit would like to take us to
a very different level of understanding when we are looking at these concepts.
We are moving into the Aquarian energy and we recognize the energy of
Leo which is astrologically the opposite pole. This is the energy that
is pushing Aquarius forward. So there is a power that is found in this
age of Leo that is supporting the movement of consciousness we have now.
The symbolism we are drawing from is the age of Leo, and in particular,
it is centered around the energies of Egypt.
When we think of
Egypt we tend to think of the present country. Actually Egypt at the time
of the energy we are moving from was a melting pot area, coming from a
lot of different traditions. Nun is the primordial ocean and from that
sprang forth Atum. Atum means all or nothingness.
In order to understand
the Path of Horus we must understand it not only on the level of individuality
but also on the level of cosmology because there is no separation. We
separate ourselves from the web of consciousness, but in actuality it
is all the same. So when we come to understand the point of origin of
which all things emerged, then we also understand our own point of movement
and those forces of energy.
So in the beginning
it was said that there was the primordial ocean of Nun. Here we are talking
about the point of which there is potentiality. In all things that are
possible there must be force that moves on the waters. This force sprang
out of the womb of desire, out of the desire to know self. Out of that
desire sprang Atum. Atum being that which is all and that which is nothing.
Atum is said to be the fiery spark. The fiery spark which emerged out
of the waters. Atum upon emergence created Shu and Tefnut. Now this is
an important understanding because Shu is associated with air. Tefnut
is the lion-headed; sometimes associated with fire sometimes with humidity,
but I want to take us to a different understanding because this is a level
where there is expansion, and where there is expansion, there has to be
contraction. This is the understanding of duality. When we speak of Horus
we speak of expansion. We are also going to understand that which is called
Set as contraction. You will always see in manifestation expansion and
contraction energies. We understand that if we look at the primordial
ocean as being expansion, Atum came forward as contraction. We have a
contraction out of which something emerges. If you just have one or the
other, you do not have movement. Shu and Tefnut were sent forth out of
the fire. We have Shu in the understanding of air- expansion and we have
Tefnut in the understanding of contraction which again on one level is
seen as humidity, some say fire. What I would share with you is to perhaps
consider Tefnut as volume. So we have space and volume; we have that which
expands and that which fills, expansion and contraction. I would like
to tell you a story about Atum.
Atum is associated
with the eye of Horus. It is said Atum carries both eyes. You see in tradition
after tradition, the eye is oftentimes in the palm of the hand. You will
see it worn as an amulet about the neck. Atum is associated with the right
eye, the eye associated with the sun. Horus is associated with the left
eye, the eye associated with the moon.
The story is that
once Atum had created Shu and Tefnut, Space and Volume, there was an extended
period of time during which Shu and Tefnut explored their worlds. Atum
felt that he had created this and they had abandoned him, so he followed
them around with his eye for eons and finally after great exploration,
they returned to him. It is said that when they returned to Atum, his
eye became enraged and fiery. Atum took the eye and placed it upon his
forehead. That is when Shu and Tefnut began the act of creating others.
Remember when we are talking about creating the others we mean that they
are an extension of Atum in the form of qualities of Atum. These aren't
separate beings.
Why would the eye
become enraged? Why would there be jealousy? Eyes are a way, a vehicle,
to gain knowledge and knowledge has a powerful place. But knowledge without
insight is limited. When knowledge is just steeped in physicality it is
limited. Consider it this way: when these two went out and explored what
there was, which was nothingness, they gained knowledge of nothingness
but they recognized that in order to have wisdom there must be another
level. Remember, these two are simply an extension of Atum. Atum recognized
that in order to truly gain something more than knowledge there had to
be a transcendence, a place where you can gain information from your eyes
and take it to the next level. In Egypt the uraeus is placed on the third
eye. Knowledge is transcended to the next level which is Ajna, the transcendent
light. The understanding of the enraged eye was the recognition that knowledge
alone does not serve, that there must be another quality put in place
that transcends knowledge, that takes it to the next level: the ability
to see beyond.
They understood that
if indeed the god/goddess was to know self as self, knowledge alone would
not serve. There had to be another quality put in place: the quality of
transcendent light. And from that level there was ability, for we have
Geb, earth and Nuit sky. It was understood that now knowledge could be
taken to transcendent light and worlds could be created. This is a very
important formula.
Many of us have done
formulas for prosperity, health - for all sorts of things. We have all
this knowledge, we do the formulas just so, but it doesn't click. What's
the missing element? The transcendent quality. Ether is the fifth element.
When you have knowledge in your life, but you don't bring it to the next
level, the transcendent light, it will probably only take haphazardly.
You need to rise to the next level in order to start your desire into
physical manifestation.
It is from the earth
that come the sons and daughters who are the extensions of Atum. We have
Isis and Osiris, Nephthys and Set, and then from there we have Horus and
Anubis. Geb and Nuit, (earth and sky) are expansion and contraction. We
have again these two, Isis and Osiris which historically have been associated
with expansion and Nephthys and Set with contraction. When we are talking
transcendence, we are talking about the ability to have a sense of self
beyond self. When we go down into the extension of Atum, into Geb and
Nuit we go into the earth and sky, and then we move from there into Isis
and Osiris and Nephthys and Set.
I want to tell you
another story. This is the story about there together in the beginning.
It is said that Shu came between Geb and Nuit and created space between
earth and sky and that they longed for each other. Why do you think it
was necessary from them to be separated by Shu? Why was Shu introduced?
When there is creation, there is always a third element. When you have
three forces of energy, you have a triangle of power. These three forces
of energy are the transcendent light, and the energies of the sun and
moon. The third quality that was introduced by Shu created the third element.
There are always three elements in creation. There is a catalyst. These
understandings carry great power.
You are seeking to
stand as the Horus Kings and Queens. They were called the Shemshu Hor.
They were the followers of Horus.
Maat is consciousness.
She holds both consciousness and super consciousness. Call to the energy
of Maat and she will help you hold consciousness in all levels.
When there was expansion
and contraction, the third element had to be introduced in order that
out of that would be the force that would allow again for creation: the
power of three, the triune energy, the triangle energy. So with this came
Isis and Osiris, Nephthys and Set. Isis is called the Lady of Magic. She
is shown with a throne on her head. Isis was the companion and sister
of Osiris, the wise ruler. She is shown to be the aspect of expansion.
We have Osiris who is associated with the expansion aspect, associated
with resurrection and rebirth. The Path of Osiris is the Path of Reincarnation.
The Path of Horus is the Direct Path of Return.
Nephthys who
is shown with a cup on her head represents the energies of the subconscious
mind and is shown as darker colored; that which is hidden. She is the
contraction aspect. Nephthys contains. Set is associated with the contraction
aspect.
It is said
that Set was jealous of his brother Osiris for Osiris was loved, recognized
and honored. Set felt limited and less than Osiris. In his rage, Set arranges
Osiris' murder. It was said that Osiris had ruled his kingdom with great
love and had gone to other kingdoms to teach the understanding of love
and rulership and democracy. While he was away, Isis took over the command
of rulership. She ruled with a wise head and loving heart. Set became
enraged for he desired Isis. Being jealous of Osiris' rule, Set planned
a scheme to take over the kingdom of Osiris. He created a sarcophagus
that was beautifully adorned and tailored to fit Osiris exactly. Set threw
a great party and invited Osiris and seventy-two of his fellow conspirators.
Everyone tried the sarcophagus including Osiris. It fit him perfectly
and they nailed it shut. The sarcophagus was encased in lead and Osiris
suffocated. The sarcophagus was cast into the river and lodged in a tree.
Osiris is away from Isis, we have separation. Set ruled the south and
Osiris ruled the north. Set brought forth seventy-two conspirators. The
number seventy-two is associated with creation. There are seventy-two
genii in the magical system. We can look on this as an atrocity: Set murdered
Osiris, but it had to be. Osiris had to die so he could resurrect. Set
was playing the energy of Judas.
Lead is associated
with Saturn . Light cannot penetrate lead. Saturn is contraction and containment.
So we have that which the light cannot penetrate, and that which is contained.
We have that which holds the light. Osiris, expansion, is put in a contracted
state. It symbolizes going into the form world. Spirit coming into form.
Isis goes on a search
around the world for the sarcophagus, which she finds. In the meantime
Set returns, and again it is the energy of chaos. Set finds Osiris' body
and cuts it into fourteen pieces and casts it about. Isis reassembles
Osiris' body but cannot find the phallus, so she makes a golden one and
out of Isis and Osiris' union comes Horus. The breaking up of the body
symbolizes distortion of the light. The missing phallus symbolizes the
power of creation.
Horus emerged after
Osiris had been dead and reborn. Horus is depicted in many ways: Horus
suckling Isis' breast, Horus the Child, and Horus the Elder. In the story
when Horus was born Isis nourished him and hid him in the reeds because
he was very vulnerable. In the beginning the light is vulnerable. As Horus
(the light) grows stronger, he takes upon himself the avenging of Osiris'
murder. We see Horus as the light that has been born into this world.
To fight chaos, Horus must wait until he is an elder. A long battle with
Set ensues. As we reincarnate our light gets stronger and we become capable
of challenging our own shadow self.
In Egypt, if the
shadow self is too strong, upon death that person was earthbound. In tombs
there were false doors so the Ka body could move in and out. On the path
of reincarnation, you need a strong, vital Ka which is your etheric double.
The Ka is also what draws you back into reincarnation. If it is strong
and clear, it will support you on your path of Horus which is the path
of direct return. The shadow self can prevent a person's Ka from being
able to move.
There is
a point at death when if you go to the Light you are no longer bound to
the Wheel of Rebirth; a point of grace. Most people never do it because
the light is so blinding that the consciousness goes for the lower light
because it is more comfortable.
There is a place
in Horus where in this lifetime you can do the deed. You can move into
the point of mastery. You can do your work from the other side and no
longer are bound to matter. The Osiris Path is the path of death and rebirth;
on the Horus path you shoot straight up.
The left eye is the
moon which gives us a sense of time on this planet. Horus being in form
is associated with the left eye. In one of their battles, Set pulled out
the eye of Horus and tore it up. Horus took revenge by taking Set's testicles
off (baser instincts).
Our Horus
aspect is vulnerable when we block ourselves to the light, illumination.
The intervention of wisdom restored the eye to full sight. So it is when
we gather wisdom that we are restored to full capacity to touch the light.
In funeral
rites, the canopic jars were guarded by the four sons of Horus: the four
elements symbolized by the stomach, the intestines, the lungs and liver.
Behind the four sons guarding the canopic jars are the goddesses. The
jars are not near the mummy, who was placed facing the north where Osiris
had dominion. The jars were placed in the south where Set had dominion.
This was a magical formula and depending on the level of your understanding
in the mysteries, was where you took it. They placed the four elements
in the south. This was the place which tears asunder, which dissolves
that which releases. What does chaos do? It disperses and breaks up and
purifies . The Egyptians understood that and depending on the level of
alchemy, the canopic jars were under the tutelary of the four sons of
Horus: Horus holding the aspect direct return. The four sons aided the
direct return with Set: the gift of Set.

A reason those organs
were protected is the alchemical aspect that each of those organs perform.
The lung is the breathing in and breathing out: bringing in oxygen and
releasing carbon monoxide. It is an aerobic process of bringing oxygen
to the blood, to the hemoglobin. The intestines release food and feed
the system through osmosis. The liver with Isis: think of Isis, the Lady
of Magic associated with the liver that takes out toxins. It also helps
assimilation of food. The stomach is a wonderful organ. It takes in one
substance and turns it into something usable for us. These organs also
tie in with a level of biochemical understanding.
In the north
was placed the mummy which held the heart, the purified heart, no longer
under the pull of the four elements, standing alone in purity and clarity.
The four sons of Horus hold the space for purification. Set and Horus
battle and ultimately Horus is the victor. At that time the north and
south come together; two lands come together as one and Horus rules. Symbolically,
north and south come together, red being associated with north/ Horus
and white of Set, south. Why red? It stands for blood, power, Atum, that
which is transcendent. White is associated with the Word, Hu. Why would
Set be associated with the Word? We have to understand the purpose of
Set. There can be no life without Set. Horus is that which frees, Set
is that which contains. Without Set there can be no form, no life, for
there would be no form. When you speak here of red and white, you speak
of the deeper understanding of the Eucharist, for the red of Horus is
the blood, it is the vine. White is the bread, it is the sustenance; the
coming together of bread and wine, the coming together of the blood and
body. The journey from Atum through the levels of expression then were
the children created. All is Atum, you come from this. You go forth to
rejoin as one. The blood as well as the body. And there you return, but
not the same. For then you return greater than that which sent you forth.
How could it be otherwise? You must join and then the third out of the
two is created.
One of the
questions often asked and there is a lot of confusion about this, is why
the Egyptians used animal heads on their deities. Oftentimes Thoth is
shown with the baboon head as well as the Ibis head. The baboon urinates
twelve times a day. The reason I'm telling you this is because twelve
is associated with time. What is one of Thoth's jobs as scribe? He is
the Keeper of Time, a recorder. The baboon was associated with time. When
the sun goes down or is hidden, baboons become very depressed and despondent.
The Egyptians were said to be one of the first to have zoos and aviaries.
On another level it was a recognition of these traits; also a recognition
that there was no separation. An animal was an aspect of creation and
it was said that the animal on this level was something we would observe
and understand and identify with but not overly identify with. So there
was a bringing together of these energies to create a container.
The Egyptians would
go to the Temple of Life for training. They would literally spend the
first several years in observation. They would spend hours watching fish,
baboons, falcons, etc.; watching all the different animals. Then they
would bring animals in and have them observed. There was a keen understanding
of the need for awareness and the power of awareness because awareness
is consciousness. Before they ever moved into training for any of the
other steps of magical work, they were required to spend years in the
Temple of Life. What they did was observe. They understood that most of
us go through our days asleep. We don't observe. We feel so inundated
that we create little spaces for ourselves and block everything else because
we feel it will become a distraction and diversion. Another thing that
was taught in the Temple of Life was that you observed but weren't attached.
We learned a coping mechanism early on which was to block out everything
but that which is right in front of us else we would be drawn here and
there. That's a skill and its a skill we needed. At some point that same
tool became a chain. Now we need to be fully conscious and can manage
very well in this world if we are not attached.
In many of
the tombs of adults there are found different size spinning tops. It was
a mystery as to why this child's toy, which was intricately designed and
of all sizes, was found in these adult tombs. They had to use these as
magical tools to learn how to hold perfect equilibrium with the staff
and rotate around to have 360 degrees of awareness - that is to have total
mastery of the world. And there is absolutely no reason why every single
one of you cannot and should not do the same thing. There is no separation.
Why is it that we choose to separate that way?
Horus is called Lord
of the Seven Lights among other titles. There are many understandings
and magical associations with the number seven. There are Seven that sit
at the throne of the Creator. There are the Seven Lords and seven planes.
In the pyramid there are three points that sit on a base of four. So the
pyramid is called the mastery of the seven lights and Horus was said to
be the Master of the Seven Lights. I have been speaking a lot to you about
the pyramid energy, the threefold energy. You take two and you bring in
a third element. You have the power of the three which creates the pyramid
energy, the third element is the catalyst that activates these two and
when the three come together, there is creation. There is something else
that is created out of that. The other piece that Horus brings us is that
of the three that sits on the base of the four. The mastery of the four,
the mastery of the earth, the Path of Horus is the Path of Mastery. Horus
is called the Solar Path. The path of the sun which is the outer manifestation.
The sun that rises is called Kefer, the scarab, the rising sun. The sun
at noonday is Ra, the sun at setting is Atum and the sun in the underworld
is Iwf which means flesh. It is the light being clothed in the flesh.
It is hidden.
Where is the secret
to this Horian Path? It is in our bodies. When you go into the pyramid
text there is an interesting formula that happens because there are twelve
gates, twelve hours, the baboon and Thoth. When you see the depictions
in the underworld, the first six gates/hours depict the sun god as standing
in the tabernacle. The second six gates/hours show the sun god with a
snake that spirals around him. The first six hours in the underworld are
in a tabernacle to contain all that energy - contraction. Then it opens
to a spiral - expansion, DNA, movement. We have the solar serpent that
moves. The kundalini is contained until there comes a place of expansion
when it is moved and then it is set free and moves up. So what we have
is that the first six hours are movement that holds and contains and the
next six hours are where the movements spiral out and from the rising
sun transformation is completed.
Sekhmet is the lion-headed
goddess, the defender of Ra. She is shown with the flail which depicts
movement of energy. She is shown with the ithyphallic fertilizing aspect
because what was recognized was that even in the feminine polarity there
is a male aspect of energy of creation just as within the male polarity
there is a female aspect. Both energies are reflections of each other,
also in regards to these sons, the sons being associated with Hathor.
When the eye was
placed upon the head, it was said that only when it was rooted was it
able to take knowledge and transcend it. The key word being rooted. It
can only root in matter which is why one of the key symbols you will see
is the four sons of Horus sitting in the lotus. The lotus is rooted in
matter and opens to the sun but its roots are in matter. This is where
the four sons of Horus are usually shown. The four sons of Horus are associated
with the transformation of the four elements which is again mastery of
the physical world and which means we are going back into the flesh, which
is where Ra gains mastery. That is why Atum is associated with the lotus
because the mastery is gained by being rooted in the flesh. Hathor represents
the female matter: primordial soup. The mastery of the sun is through
the flesh. The mastery of Horus is through the flesh; that is the path
that you are walking. Now do it consciously.
Kefer which is the
rising sun is the point which is the embodiment of the resurrection. The
four levels of the underworld of which the first two levels of three hours
each are spent in the tabernacle and the last two levels of three hours
each are spent in the spiral. Kefer is a critical understanding to this.
The first two levels in the flesh are nutrition and metabolism. The next
two levels in the flesh take the nutrition and transform it into vital
energy. Then you take that and move that energy into subtle thought. The
first two levels are associated with the lower mind and the next two levels
with the higher mind. Out of the subtle thought, the knowing comes and
that is the emergence of Kefer. This ties in with the canopic jars at
deeper levels and why they were revered and why they were under the dominion
of the four sons of Horus.
Horus, the sun god
being the energies of the upper world then took an extension of himself/herself
into the four sons to hold dominion over the flesh, that is to gain mastery
over the flesh. That is why they stand atop the canopic jars because they
are holding the energies of those organs that are working with the process
of assimilation. They are sanctifying, bringing spirit to that which is
in form. Our task is to bring the lower kingdoms into the upper kingdoms.
This is the formula. It is to sanctify this body of flesh and to take
it into transcendent light. So the first two stages are the stages of
which you take in nutrition and metabolize all the energies contained
in the tabernacle. The next two stages are the spiraling action; the expansion
occurs when that which has been metabolized is then released into vital
energy. And then when you have vital energy it is transformed into the
higher levels of understanding. Vital energies go into subtle thought
and that is why the mummy is left in the north because the body was revered
as was the heart.
The body was not
something that was seen as undesirable. Out of love, Atum himself the
Creator, clothed his body in flesh. The body was revered because it created
the flesh through which the journey was taken through the underworld upon
death, which was really the birth of the sun, the Horus King returned
back to the Source. This body was honored because it had a place, it had
served in beauty, and in grace and in love. It was honored and sacred
as was the heart because the heart was recognized as the alchemical cup.
The organs were placed in the south where Set resided; where chaos, destruction
and purification alchemically changed them. Set had given the gift of
contraction where alchemy takes place.
So the first
two levels of containment where we take in nutrition and metabolize it
and where we release it as vital energy that it would feed our thoughts
that they would soar and be free is overseen by Maat. She does not judge.
She is depicted in the Halls of Judgment where she weighs the heart which
is left in the revered body. She weighs it not in judgment, she weighs
it in consciousness, because if the heart is light, it is free. There
is no need for return to the earth. If it is not free, then it would be
an injustice for it not to be returned. The Path of Osiris is not a path
that is given in retribution. It is an act of ultimate love, for if your
heart is not free, if it is not light, if it is not consciousness, then
you are bound. The Path of Return gives you the path of freedom, if it
is free you have stepped into superconsciousness. You have walked the
Path of Horus and you are free. She is the fifth element, she is the ether.
Maat holds consciousness and superconsciousness. That is the understanding
of Maat.
Kefer is the scarab
contained in the dung, lava, cocoon and fed through osmosis. It then emerges
from that cocoon winged, free. It is that place in which the worm becomes
the winged scarab. The whole space is a contained space. It is a place
that is contracted, it is held in a small space. It is an alchemical container.
The mummy which is
placed in the north is watched over by goddess Neith, goddess of weaving,
goddess of subtle thought. In the south, which is where Selket the scorpion
goddess resides, which is also where Set resides, is where the container
is held. The way you will see the sun god in the last six hours, even
though in a spiral, is in the form of a snake shown spiraling over the
head, so it is still contained, but in the body of the snake. The snake
eating its tail symbolizing eternity.
There are certain
ways that space and volume move that create pathways by which the Egyptians
had an understanding of the simultaneousness of duality. They understood
that something can be wave and a particle, at the same time depending
on how you use space and time.
There are
seven elements, not four. Set plucked Horus' eye and tore it asunder.
Thoth, the magician, came and put the eye back together. The eye of Horus
is the eye of the moon. It is light that is entrapped in matter. The gift
of Set, the oppressor, is to take that eye and tear it asunder and in
the tearing the light is freed because it is through conflict, it is through
the struggle of the earthly existence, that the light is freed. It is
through the gift of Set plucking the eye that offends because it is not
seeing clearly. It is seeing through the shroud of matter. It is not seeing
with the clarity of the one eye. It is taken out and torn asunder and
then Thoth, the third element, comes in and blesses this (magic-alchemy).
When you see a tree,
take a moment and consider the tree upside down - change your perception.
When you see your world, challenge your reality of perception. You create
your world based on your reality from lifetime after lifetime. Challenge
your perception. We operate out of three rooms in our brain and there
are thousands of rooms.
