The Higher
Self

When we talk about
the energy of the Higher Self, we are talking about a pattern, a perfected
pattern. It holds a piece of the truth of what you really are. But it
is not clothed in a consciousness as you and I would understand a consciousness.
It has to use your consciousness as a personality to the degree that contact
has been established. What else is it going to use? Now understand your
consciousness is every lifetime you've had up to this moment. You are
a long line of experiences that have accumulated into the moment. And
every one of you has the emotional, mental and physical vehicle that your
Higher Self needs to go about its particular work this lifetime. Your
Higher Self created you as a manifestation of you right now. You are everything
that was deemed appropriate to hold in the permanent atom lifetime after
lifetime, it has sculpted and molded you. You've got the right body for
what you need right now, you've got the right mind for what you need right
now, you've got the right emotions for what you need right now. You've
got exactly what you need right now in your personality, and your Higher
Self is just waiting for you to integrate your personality and develop
the bridge of light, the Antakarana, so it can achieve greater and greater
contact and union. It's going to use your frame of reference to communicate
with you. Now understand that your frame of reference is a lot larger
than you think it is.
The Higher Self is
called by some the Inner Self, the Self, or the Soul. The Higher Self
is sent down from the Monad, for the Monad is of such a pure vibration
that it cannot be held but on a very pure plane. The Monad develops a
mechanism to carry some of its consciousness lower and lower into the
planes. The Monad's intermediate vehicle for expression is that of the
Higher Self which is formless and resides on the Atma, Buddic and Manas
planes to express the spiritual intent of the Monad.
The personality,
which is in form, eventually reaches that state in which there is a deeper
longing for union, for that which is held in the formless. The challenge
and the opportunity is, that most of the time our attention is not focused
on spirit, on the Higher Self. If my energy is focused on my experience
of the form world and my identification is with form and the me that I
call my personality then even if there is desire for contact, the capacity
is not there. The contact must be strengthened and developed. For the
contact to the Higher Self that is in place without development is that
of which will sustain the life force. Further abilities must be brought
about not only by the desire but also by the focused intent. We bring
in to this life experience also a level of development from our other
lives.
But the truth
is that most of us pour our focus of energy into what we identify with
the personality. We run the energy through our personality and this form
world To develop the focused intent to have a stream of consciousness
with your Higher Self takes a great deal of discipline. That's holding
the mind steady in the light. This is a process of which we move our consciousness
out of the control of the desire body, from out of the turmoil of the
emotional body and out of the distraction of our mind chatter. And it
takes an integrated personality, as well as discipline. Many of us may
feel that we cannot possibly achieve all of that in a lifetime, and in
truth it does take a progression of lives. Yet I remind you, that what
is achieved in a lifetime is built upon in the next.
We went through the
path of the mystic. The mystical experience was outside of us. "Please
let me touch the robes of the creator." I had my ecstasy, my experience
of at-one-ment, and often two days later I am on my knees in despair at
being back in this plane and out of the experience of contact with my
Beloved. It was very erratic. Now what I'm saying to you is that you're
turning to what is called the Path of the Knower, where you are able to
consciously keep this focus, and keep this door open all the time, and
simultaneously focus on this plane. At this time it's about getting the
job done here and being able to hold the levels open. But holding the
levels open and being present doesn't mean you identify yourself with
the present.
How can you
do that? How can you be in the present and not identify? Maybe we start
out with the basics and recognize that first of all, what we know in the
present is very rarely what it looks like. What we love to do is go to
a black or white place of thought. We love to go absolute. I can utilize
a chair as a chair, which means I'm in the present, but I accept the fact
that it's not what it appears to be. While my senses tell me that this
chair is solid, in actuality the chair is mostly space. What I'm saying
to you is, be in the present, but recognize that we do not see all that
truly is. We identify with the perceptions of what our world tells us
and stop our identification with Spirit. We take this identification to
the world, it is reflected in how we act, think and respond. We meet our
responsibilities and are an active part of the global community. It is
no longer appropriate for us to live in temples or isolation. We must
be able to be in both worlds. To bring that of which is above to that
which is below.
